First Day of School

The first day of school is always bittersweet for me.

After a summer of getting to be with my kids, all the time, it is hard to see them go.

However, after a summer of getting to be with my kids, all the time, I am ready for them to go back.

That makes sense if your a mom, I promise.

This was a BIG year for us...maybe one I have been dreading, ever since I was blessed with this sweet boy.

Parker started Kindergarten!!

I have been so nervous about this day, because I don't want Parker to get lost in the system, if you know what I mean.

I remember seeing the special needs kids at my school growing up and it didn't always seem like it was the best "quality care and education". That could have just been my naive perception of course.

Anyway I had been agonizing over this for years really.

But about three months ago I just got this overwhelming feeling that this is what Parker needed.

And it was something that I couldn't give him.

Right then I realized that my role as Parker's mother was changing.

It was now my responsibility to make sure Parker receive the best care possible and did not get lost in the system.

If that means getting up in people's faces (I hate doing, btw, despite what Jake may say.), then I will get all up in people's business!

Luckily I have not had to do that yet (or too much).

Parker is really loving Kindergarten!

Caleb started 4th grade! He is so old!

He has Ms. Ceisler and she seems to be a great fit for this shy kid.

Caleb came home today and told me he is on Student Council this year!

I had to do the happy dance in my head, cause Caleb has a hard time putting himself out there and I think this will be really good for him.

You know build up his confidence like Karate does (if you don't get that reference to The Phone Call or you don't know what The Phone Call is, then you don't belong in this dojo.)

Our Amy dear started 3rd grade.

She made me all nostalgic when she came down in her 1st day of school outfit. Hand picked by her weeks ago.

It totally looked like an outfit from Mervynns, where my mom would take us to do our back to school shopping.

Amy is loving being back in school, with rules, schedules, and planners.

She is in her element.

And this guy didn't start school

(does anyone want a 2 1/2-year-old that refuses to go to the "bafroom"?)

But he was sure excited to see them go...

I'll take Chase...just cause that means you have to drive him out to me and then I'll get to see you! Ca-bub is a 4th grader....ahhh when did that happen. And Amy, oh sweet Amy! Love the shout out to Mervyns. And if I'm being totally honest I got a little misty eyed when I saw my Parker all big and going off to kindergarten. I want to be in that school protecting him from "the system" (you know what I mean). And JAKE where ever you get a job you better make sure there is one for us so we can come live by each other again...got it!

You're so classy, my family didn't shop at Mervyns? Heck, we shopped at Hancocks, for material for jams. The kids look adorable!!

I'll totally take Chase too, maybe he can tell my boys about the bafroom cause as of now, they just think the toilet is their personal sink.

Sorry about the question mark. And the extra comment to apologize.

Your kids steal my heart! They're all so cute. I love Parker's smile.

IT's OK to get in faces when it comes to your kids.

My oldest grandchild is in 4th grade this year! Sheesh! And as for Chase, he can join my 2 1/2 year old grandson who doesn't like to go to the bafroom either! What's with these boys?
Enjoy your day!

I will take Chase! He can come play with my boys and they can not go to the bafroom all together :)

if you ever need someone to have your back while you get all up in people's business - i got you covered! i will gladly come down there and do it with you (i can't confront people i know very well but give me a stranger and i will go to town!)

Aaahhh! I'm so glad Caleb is in Student Council. Every kid needs at least onr teacher who believes in the little guys. Charming Amy will do great too, and of course she chose her outfit weeks ago! Thank you for your description of your Parker feelings. I don't think anyone who comes in contact with Parker, would be able to ignore his precious smile and strong spirit. You know we'd all go to bat for him. As for Chase, you know it is going to be a sad day when he goes to school and leaves you at home to play with girly little Katie alone. Don't worry about the bafroom. The peer pressure in kindergarten will take care of that. Thanks for sharing your first day of school.

Ditto on the cuteness of your kids. I'm excited for Caleb to be on SC - fun! Glad all the kinks are getting worked out for Parker. So fun to see you the other night too. Come back soon - better yet, let's go get some ice cream.

I'll bet there are already at least two or three 4th grade girlos who are absolutely in serious like with Caleb. That smile! That stance! He looks chock full o' confidence. And could the rest of your kids BE any cuter? PS: I flew through Marana the other day. I was gonna stop by but I thought that might be a tad rude with no notice. love, aunt dona
